An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 24" x 33 1/4" [61 x 84 cm]) (Learn More) The Thin Man, the classic 1934 W.S. Van Dyke (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) detective crime mystery romantic comedy melodrama ("Dashiell Hammet's Master Mystery Novel!"; "Based on the mystery novel by Dashiell Hammett"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; it was so successful that it spawned a series of sequels with "Thin Man" in their titles, even though the actual "thin man" from the first movie was the man who was killed!) starring William Powell (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as the alcoholic ex-crook detective Nick Charles), Myrna Loy (as Nick's rich socialite wife Nora Charles, who helped solve crimes), Maureen O'Sullivan, Nat Pendleton, Minna Gombell, Asta (their dog, who became very popular!), Edward Brophy, Edward Ellis (as Clyde Wynant, the actual "thin man"!), and Henry Wadsworth NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release posters from ANY country for this first movie in this classic detective series are incredibly rare! This is the first time we have ever auctioned this Belgian poster. Also note that this is a rare "pre-War" Belgian poster. Prior to World War II, Belgian posters were much larger than the ones from after the war, and they are extremely rare (because during WWII, there was a massive paper shortage in Belgium, and they took virtually every poster and map, and printed new posters on the backs of them!). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the middle crossfold and very minor wear on the folds. It had paper loss in the right of the top blank border, affecting the upper right of the "C" of "MAJESTIC" and all the white paper to the right of that, but only affecting a tiny bit of the blue background. It had discoloration beneath that paper loss, caused by tape that was on that back of that area, very slightly affecting the top of the "ll" of "Powell" and the blue background to the right of that. It had tiny pinholes in the corners of the image. It had tears and paper loss in the right blank border. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed onto a fairly thin linen, and new paper was placed in the top right blank corner, and slight restoration was performed. The poster displays well as it is, but certainly, I could understand why someone would choose to have this great poster removed from the thin backing and re-backed. Either way, I am envious of the new owner of this poster. Learn More about condition grades
