CHARLIE CHAN AT TREASURE ISLAND CHARLIE CHAN AT TREASURE ISLAND LC OR search current auctions Auction History Result 3b380 CHARLIE CHAN AT TREASURE ISLAND LC 1939 Charles Halton & Sally Blane, Asian Sidney Toler, rare Date Sold 1/8/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan at Treasure Island, the 1939 Norman Foster Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Charlie Chan challenges the supernatural at Treasure Island"; "The strange case of murder by magic!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers"; "Original story and screen play by John Larkin") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Cesar Romero, Pauline Moore, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan; billed simply as "Sen Yung"), Douglas Fowley, June Gale, Douglass Dumbrille, Sally Blane, Billie Seward, Wally Vernon, Donald McBride, and Charles Halton. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that there is a stamp on the back that reads "FROM THE COLLECTION OF Michael R. Hawks", who most would consider the premier lobby card collector and expert in the world (and he is still an active collector, looking for the last few items he needs!). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There is a tiny tear in the upper right border and very faint water staining in the top right corner. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
