An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Waifs, the 1914 Tony O'Sullivan silent family relationship war melodrama short (about a widowed soldier who has a daughter, and he can't take care of her, so he convinces his father, who has disowned him, to take in his granddaughter) starring Harry Carey Sr. (in one of his earliest roles, but he was 36 when this movie was made; see below), Claire McDowell, Edwin August, and Fanny Midgley. Note that IMDB has D.W. Griffith as the unconfirmed director of this film, but an expert tells us that Tony O'Sullivan was the director, and that D.W. Griffith had nothing to do with this movie. The confusion is likely because Griffith directed a similarly titled movie called Two Little Waifs in 1910. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this one-sheet 29 years ago, and it has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example of this one-sheet we have ever auctioned! Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm].

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was folded in half an extra time, and it had tiny paper loss at the top and bottom crossfolds, with minor wear on the other folds and some smudges, stains, and tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
