An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10 3/4" x 14" [27 x 36 cm]; 16 pages) (Learn More) John Meade's Woman (released in other English-speaking countries as "John Meade's Lady"), the 1937 Richard Wallace Depression era Dust Bowl big business romantic love triangle melodrama (a wacky story of a ruthless businessman who romances and leaves a young woman, and she becomes a leader of the farmers who want to stop the businessman, and after all sorts of catastrophes, the businessman lays dying at the end of the movie and the two confess their love for each other) starring Edward Arnold (in the title role as John Meade), Francine Larrimore, Gail Patrick, George Bancroft, John Trent, and Sidney Blackmer. Note that French-born Francine Larrimore had appeared in a few silent movies when she was a teenager, but then went to New York and became a successful Broadway actress. Since so many years had passed since her earlier movies, it was advertised that she was making her debut in films with this movie, which was not strictly true! The movie was not well received, and she went back to Broadway and never made another movie. Also note that it seems likely that producer B.P. Schulberg and director Richard Wallace did not get along on this production, because the advertising has B.P. Schulberg's credit in a fairly normal size type, while Wallace's directing credit is the tiniest size type we have ever seen! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook was removed from a bound volume and there is slight damage down the spine (see our image). Otherwise, the pressbook is in pretty nice condition!
