Date Sold 5/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 37 1/4" x 56" [95 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Robert und Bertram (literally translates to "Robert and Bertram"), the 1928 Rudolf Walther-Fein German silent romantic painter artist comedy (about two German painters who are best friends, but don't have much success, and they decide to just wander the countryside and see where it takes them; after many adventures, they end up in jail, and decide to change their ways, and fortunately, they meet two women who take them up on it!) starring Harry Liedtke (in the title role as Robert Leonhard), Fritz Kampers (in the title role as Bertram Engelke), Elizza La Porta, Dolly Grey, and Carl Geppert. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! Also note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II German poster! Virtually no German posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in Germany during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Also note that because this is an "export" poster, it does not have a title on it (countries would print in the title in their own language in the bottom blank area). In this case, the poster was used in Hungary, and the title was handwritten at the bottom, so we know that this poster is from "Robert und Bertram". Condition: good. The poster has darkened somewhat and it has slight discoloration scattered in some areas from exposure to moisture. There is writing in the lower edge and at lower left (that has been affected by the moisture) and there are some tack holes around the edges. It has some separation and paper loss at the center crossfold and that has been backed with a tiny piece of restoration tape. It is otherwise "all there" and has survived in relatively good condition for an ultra rare pre-World War II poster and after linenbacking it will be preserved and display pretty well.
