Note that this poster features an image of a mother with her mouth taped shut, and her child holding up the peace sign. Many migrants arrive in Greece from the Middle East, making the 4 mile water crossing to Greek islands which are close to Turkey and are thus a quick and easy access border into Europe. As of June 2015, 124,000 migrants had arrived into Greece, a 750% increase from 2014, mainly refugees stemming from the wars in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Greece appealed to the European Union for assistance, whilst the UNCHR European Director Vincent Cochetel said facilities for migrants on the Greek islands were "totally inadequate" and the islands in "total chaos".
