An Original Vintage Linenbacked French Ballet Stage Show Poster (measures 16" x 23" [41 x 58 cm]) (Learn More) Ballets De Paris Roland Petit, the 1950s French stage play ballet dance productions (of The Lady in the Ice and La Croqueuse de Diamants) which were held at the Theatre De L'Empire in Paris, France. Roland Petit was French dancer and choreographer who founded Ballets de Paris de Roland in 1948 and toured Europe and the United States. Note that The Lady in the Ice was a 1953 ballet composed by Jean-Michel Damase, choreographed by Roland Petit, and directed by Orson Welles (based on his idea). Welles also wrote the libretto and was the ballet's costume and set designer. It was Welles's only attempt at a ballet and, according to Welles, it did very well in London and not-so-well in Paris (because it was very badly lit) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this poster! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It had some scuffing in the bottom that appears to be a minor printing defect. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
