Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), Gavin Gordon, and Neil Fitzgerald NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we are re-auctioning this card. On September 23rd, 2003, we auctioned the card and it sold for $2,000 exactly. The bidding was very active, and amazingly, there were five different bidders who bid between $1,837.55 and $2,000 (the actual bid amounts were $2,000, $2,000, $1,938, $1,887.60, and $1,837.55, and all were from different eBay members). But several weeks after the auction ended, the high bidder contacted us and said that someone had bid on his account without his permission, so we cancelled the auction. We are now re-auctioning the card, and once again, it has NO RESERVE! Condition: good. The card has been professionally paperbacked (this means it has been mounted onto a thin acid-free board and has had restoration to minimize its defects). This card was discovered in South America, where the people who used it, cut off all of the blank borders and the bottom title area of the card, and put a snipe over the upper left of the card with the title in Spanish. Fortunately, the person who did this thought to glue the bottom title area to the back of the card. See below for two images that show this card PRIOR to restoration. It is difficult to tell from the photos, but the card had a fair amount of surface damage, including in the face of the bride. Whoever restored the card removed the title area from the back of the card, and rejoined it to the top part and recreated the borders, including recreating the missing small writing at the lower left. They then did a lot of restoration throughout the entire card to attempt to repair and hide the surface damage the card had sustained over the years. The result is that the card looks pretty nice from a distance away, but from inches away, it is evident there has been much restoration throughout the entire card. We have included a close-up below of the most important part of the image area and we hope that conveys the amount of restoration this card has had. Obviously this card is very heavily restored. But it is just as obvious that most collectors could never dream of owning a great original Bride of Frankenstein card, so a collector must decide for himself if they can live with this amount of restoration. This is probably the only affordable original Bride of Frankenstein lobby card you will ever see offered! But please do not try to make the card better than it is. Do not bid unless you have fully read the description above and can accept its many defects. Learn More about condition grades
