An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 9 3/4" x 13 1/2" [25 x 34 cm]) (Learn More) A Bout de Souffle (released in the U.S. in 1961 as "Breathless"), the classic 1960 Jean-Luc Godard French New Wave romantic gangster crime thriller (about a small time thief who steals a car and murders a policeman, and he tries to persuade his beautiful American journalism student girlfriend to run away to Italy with him, but she has misgivings) starring Jean Seberg, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Daniel Boulanger, Jean-Pierre Melville, Henri-Jacques Huet, Liliane David, Claude Mansard, and Van Doude. Note that this movie, together with Francois Truffaut's "Les quatre cents coups" began the French "New Wave", which revolutionized film-making, not only in France, but the world over! Important Added Info: Note that this is the very rare first release French poster for this classic "New Wave" movie! While this is printed on paper exactly like that of other Belgian posters of this period, it is unlike most Belgian posters of the period, because it measures 9 3/4" x 13 1/2", and it has much text printing on the back about the distribution of the movie (perhaps this was like a herald, or a color ad that was sent to Belgian theaters to try to get them to book this movie). There is a larger size first release Belgian poster that measures 14 3/4" x 20 3/4" (and is also horizontal), and we believe that poster is also a first release. There is also a 1970s re-release Belgian poster that is the same size as the 14 3/4" x 20 3/4" one, and it also uses this same image but has different releasing information at the top (and sometimes that poster is mistakenly sold as original, but If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had text writing printed on the back . It slightly bleeds through in the blank borders and in the light background areas. There are tiny pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
