An Original Vintage German Museum Exhibition Guide (measures 6" x 8 1/2" [15 x 22 cm]; 32 pages) (Learn More)

Entartete Kunst (literally translates to "Degenerate Art ") was a German art exhibition organized by Adolf Ziegler and the Nazi Party in Munich from July 19th to November 30th of 1937. The exhibition presented 650 works of art, confiscated from German museums, and was staged in counterpoint to the concurrent Great German Art Exhibition. The day before the exhibition started, Hitler delivered a speech declaring "merciless war" on cultural disintegration, and this exhibition was sponsored by Joseph Goebbels. Degenerate art was defined as works that "insult German feeling, or destroy or confuse natural form or simply reveal an absence of adequate manual and artistic skill". One million people attended the exhibition in its first six weeks. Note that shortly before this exhibition ended, there was a different exhibition in Germany called "Der Ewige Jude" (The Eternal Jew), which exhibited anti-Semitic works (and that exhibition ran for over a year).
Important Added Info: Note that this guide has a REALLY cool addition. Someone wrote the name of each piece of art with the artist and the date by almost every image in the guide! We would think that was surely done by someone attending the exhibition, and we don't know that this information is available anywhere else. So while the guide is "written on", we would think almost everyone would view this as a wonderful addition to it, and not any kind of detraction! Also note that in addition to this a museum exhibition guide from Degenerate Art, we are also auctioning (in a separate auction) a postcard advertising Der Ewige Jude (The Eternal Jew) that started as this exhibition was ending.

Condition: very good. This exhibition guide has some fairly minor wear at the spine and the pages have darkened somewhat. The guide has a plastic sleeve over the covers to protect them.
