An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Meet Boston Blackie "(of 'Get-Rich-Quick Wallingford' fame)", the 1941 Robert Florey Massachusetts New York City spy detective mystery crime thriller ("Mystery over Coney Island!"; "Spies in a freak show!"; "Murder in the 'Tunnel of Love'!"; "Story and Screen Play by Jay Dratler") starring Chester Morris (in the title role as Boston Blackie), Rochelle Hudson, Richard Lane, Charles Wagenheim, Constance Worth, Thelma Joel (as the Bat Woman!), and Schlitze (best known for his role in Freaks; as Princess Betsy/Bird Woman; when Schlitze was in Barnum's freak show, he wore a dress-like garment and was called a woman, and that continued in this movie). Note that this is one of fourteen movies made in the 1940s with Chester Morris playing the fictional character "Boston Blackie", a former crook turned detective (there had been ten silent movies made in the 1920s), all of which were based on short stories by Jack Boyle. Note that this was the first of the series, and Columbia did not expect big things from it, so they only created a two-color one-sheet on its first release! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: This certainly is one of the all time great horror/fantasy stills, even though it is not from a horror/sci-fi movie! The movie has a subplot involving a freak show, and this still shows "The Marvel of the Age, The Bat Woman", who "lives on raw meat and live lizards". Note that the movie is called "The Return of Boston Blackie" on the back of this still, which was the working title for this movie! Note that this still has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has "TRR" running down the center. One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that the still (and many others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! Each of the stills is stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us! Condition: very good to fine. There are two tiny tears with some tiny creases in the lower left blank border, but the still is otherwise in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
