Date Sold 10/30/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded Half-Sheet Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Monster of Piedras Blancas, the 1959 Irvin Berwick science fiction (sci-fi) horror thriller ("Wildest terror!"; "The fiend that walks Lovers' Beach!"; "He preys on human flesh!"; "Never before such thrills!"; "Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine Shock Award Winner; ...1st Place"; see our note below regarding this award) starring Jeanne Carmen, Les Tremayne, John Harmon, Forrest Lewis, Frank Arvidson, and Don Sullivan. Note that some horror collectors have questioned how this movie won ANY award, given that it isn't very good! One collector tells us "How this turkey won that award should be investigated. It had many pages of Famous Monsters of Filmland devoted to a detailed plot summary and pictures, but I was never aware that it had any substantial bookings in the NJ/NY area -- definitely none that I was aware of, as I made it a point to catch all such genre films. It likely seems a case of Forrest J. Ackerman helping someone out with free publicity for whatever reason." If anyone has more information about this award, and why it was given, please e-mail us and we will post it here! Also note that this low-budget movie was double-billed on its first release with Okefenokee, the 1959 Roul Haig swamp crime thriller ("Raw passions in the hell swamps!"; "You say it 'Oh-kee-fen-oh-kee'") starring Peter Coe, Henry Brandon, Peggy Maley, Walter Klavun, and Serena Sande. I have never seen any U.S. movie posters or lobby cards from either of these movies separately. If anyone knows of an individual initial release for either movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has never been machine folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were machine folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT machine folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It has a 2-3" scratch on the back that slightly shows through to the front at lower right (above the "Okefenokee" art). It otherwise has only minor edge wear and one tiny tears in the lower left blank border and it will display pretty well from a reasonable viewing distance! Learn More about condition grades
