An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 26 1/4" x 38 1/2") (Learn More) Portrait of Jennie (released in some countries as "Jennie"), the 1949 William Dieterle romantic fantasy melodrama ("If you love... Or have ever loved.. Here perhaps is the most tender, and yet terrifying, love story ever told"; "The screen's most romantic team!"; "Color Sequence by Technicolor"; "From the book by Robert Nathan"; "Produced by David O. Selznick"; "Featuring the music of Debussy"; about a disillusioned artist who meets a young girl and she disappears and he meets her again, but she is now older, and she keeps aging on each meeting, and he paints her portrait, and then discovers that she was a girl who had died many years previous in a hurricane; winner of the Best Special Effects Academy Award for this film) starring Jennifer Jones (in the title role as Jennie Appleton), Joseph Cotten, Ethel Barrymore, Lillian Gish, Cecil Kellaway, and David Wayne. Note that this film premiered on December 25th in 1948 but didn't have a wide release until April in 1949. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster measures 26 1/4" x 38 1/2", but it does not appear to have been trimmed. Also note that David Selznick re-released all of his movies after their first run (which was always through a major studio). He would re-release his movies several times, and the re-releases were almost never dated, or affiliated with another studio, so it makes them difficult to date (usually, we have to go on the style of the poster, the changing of the billing, if any, and the quality of the printing). In this case, we believe this re-release to be from the mid to late 1950s. If anyone knows more about this re-release, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good to fine. The poster had tiny paper loss at the top crossfold and a tiny hole next to Cotten's ear. Otherwise, the poster was in nice condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, but the restorer did not address the two tiny defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
