An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Advance One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 39 1/2" [69 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) The Getaway, the classic 1972 Sam Peckinpah romantic crime action thriller ("Screenplay by Walter Hill"; "From the novel by Jim Thompson") starring Steve McQueen (as Doc McCoy), Ali MacGraw (as Carol McCoy), Ben Johnson (as Jack Beynon), Al Lettieri (as Rudy Butler), Sally Struthers ("as Fran"), Slim Pickens, Jack Dodson, Dub Taylor, and Bo Hopkins. Note that the source novel of this movie was pretty "unfilmable" as written (especially the ending!), but Walter Hill did an excellent job adapting it, and while it is not the same story, it is in many ways faithful to the original, and it is certainly one of the best movies of its kind ever made! Important Added Info: Note that this special LIFE magazine advance one-sheet measures 27" x 39 1/2", but it has definitely NOT been trimmed. Note that it is an advance poster (note the "Make 'The Getaway' this Christmas!" at the bottom of the poster), and note also that this poster reproduces the special article about this movie that appeared in LIFE magazine. Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period) and pinholes in the corners. Either before or after the poster was backed, it was displayed, and the reds in the poster slightly faded, but it is not that noticeable. Someone backed the poster onto a paper backing with an excess 1/2" all around, and did no restoration (see our image). It can certainly be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or restoration could be performed. Learn More about condition grades
