An Original 1935 Vintage Theatrical Unfolded German Movie Window Card (WC; measures 9 1/2" x 14 3/4" [24 x 37 cm]) (Learn More) Remous (released in the U.S. as "Whirlpool"), the 1933 Edmond T. Greville French romantic infidelity melodrama (about a young couple where the husband is paralyzed from the waist down in a car crash, and his wife tries to remain faithful, but eventually has an affair; this sexy and daring French movie was written by an American woman, Peggy Thompson!) starring Jeanne Boitel, Jean Galland, Maurice Maillot, Francoise Rosay, and Diana Sari. Note that this movie was not allowed to be shown in the United States throughout the 1930s! It was rejected by censors three different times, in 1936, 1937, and 1939. Finally, it was released in the U.S. in late 1939. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two Swedish posters from this movie (and NO other movie paper) until we received this German window card! Of course, ANY German poster of any kind from before World War II is incredibly rare, because their paper shortages were even greater than those of other countries, and hardly any paper of any kind from before World War II survives (and in addition to shortages, items associated with the Nazi era were often destroyed for that reason). This is one of a remarkable group of 15 1930s German window cards we were consigned, which we are currently auctioning in 15 separate auctions. After these auctions have ended, it might be years before we even get one or two more of these. Finally, note that this German window card is printed on a heavy paper stock that cannot be rolled.
