Date Sold 8/7/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Destry Rides Again (released in some countries as "Arizona"), the classic 1939 George Marshall romantic cowboy western gambling poker comedy ("Based on the novel by Max Brand"; about the son of a famous sheriff who arrives in a crooked western town, with the hopes that he is like his father and will "clean up" the town, but he seems to be far from the man for the job, because he has Eastern ways, but he soon proves the naysayers wrong) starring Marlene Dietrich (as Frenchy), James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; in the title role as Tom Destry Jr.), Charles Winninger, Mischa Auer, Brian Donlevy, Irene Hervey, Una Merkel, Allen Jenkins, Warren Hymer, Billy Gilbert, Lillian Yarbo, and Jack Carson. Note that the title of the movie refers to Stewart's character returning to the town where his father had been sheriff, but it is not a sequel of any sort. Oddly, when the movie was re-made with Audie Murphy in the lead role, the title was shortened to simply "Destry", which means that "Destry Rides Again" came before "Destry"! Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned one example of this scene card in the last 16 years, and that example was only in "fair" condition! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. There are many pinholes in the corners and in the top center, with a few in the lower left border and one pair in the center of the bottom blank border. There are some smudges around the edges, with a few tiny stains in the image. Someone once wrote a great deal about the movie on the back of the card in pen, but it does not affect the front. Someone else put many pieces of tape on the back of the pinholes, but performed no restoration to the front. Obviously, this great card could be displayed as it is, or one might choose to perform any degree of restoration, but bear the above in mind and look at our images of both sides of the card before bidding on it.
