An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #1 ("The Fiery Circle") One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Three Musketeers, the 1933 Colbert Clark & Armand Schaefer Foreign Legion military action adventure serial ("A Modern Version"; "A Smashing Serial In 12 Thrilling Chapters"; loosely based on the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas) starring John Wayne, Ruth Hall, Jack Mulhall, Raymond Hatton, Ralph Bushman (billed as "Francis X. Bushman Jr."), Noah Beery Jr., Lon Chaney Jr. (billed under his given name of "Creighton Chaney"), and Robert Warwick. Note that this is a then-modern day version of the Dumas classic, with Mulhall, Hatton, and Bushman as the modern day Three Musketeers and John Wayne as the modern day D'Artagnan. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there is a two-color re-release of the this poster (from the same printing plates) that is often unknowingly sold as original. The poster offered here is the first release from 1933, and is rarely offered for sale! Condition: good to very good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, or it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years. You can see signs of the restoration from a distance. This is a poster that would greatly benefit from additional professional restoration. See below for this poster's pre-restoration condition (we are the only major auction company we know of that shares this information with our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). good. The poster was oddly folded in that there are two evenly spaced vertical folds instead of one. The poster had many small tears, creases, and smudges around the edges of the poster and in the light background areas. There are stains in the top title area, both in the white background and over the letters of the title. There were areas of paper loss at the two middle crossfolds, and there was small paper loss in the left of the middle crossfold in Wayne's collar. There was separation and tiny paper loss across the left 1/3 of the middle foldline. It appears the poster was roughly handled both before and after it was linenbacked, as there are creases throughout the poster (including a prominent 2" crease in Wayne's forehead), and some are in the linen as well. It appears the person who mounted the poster pretty much just mounted it "as is" with virtually no attempt at restoration. This poster would greatly benefit from being re-linenbacked by a top professional. There is little paper loss on the poster, and there are few stains within the actual image area, so I think that after re-backing, the poster would look quite nice, and there would truly be little need for paint on the poster!
