An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Howard Hawks' His Girl Friday, the classic 1940 Howard Hawks newspaper journalism romantic love triangle comedy ("They're at each other's throats... when they're not in each other's arms!"; "The year's most uproarious romance!"; "I demand my rights... Life... Liberty... and the Pursuit of Rosalind Russell!"; "She learned about men from him!"; "Screen play by Charles Lederer"; "Based on a play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur"; interestingly, this was a re-make of the classic 1931 newspaper movie, "The Front Page", except this movie had the very clever idea of re-casting one of the male leads as a female, and since the character in the original was named "Hildy Johnson", they were even able to keep the same name!) starring Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell, Ralph Bellamy, Gene Lockhart, Porter Hall, Marion Martin, John Qualen, Roscoe Karns, Cliff Edwards, Frank Jenks, Regis Toomey, Helen Mack, and Abner Biberman NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The poster had two long thin oval areas of paper loss in the top half of the vertical foldline (both are approximately 1/4" wide by approximately 3". One of these was in the vertical foldline to the right of Grant's hair and the other was just above his shoulder, extending slightly in his shoulder. There were tears and areas of paper loss to the left and right of the vertical foldline in the white area between the bottom of Grant's shoulder and the "T" of "GRANT" in the credits. There was a circular tear in the vertical foldline to the right of the "D" of "ROSALIND". There were a few other lesser tears in the rest of the vertical foldline. Other than the vertical foldline damage described above, the poster was in surprisingly nice condition. There was very minor wear and separation on the horizontal foldlines, and some creases, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss in the blank borders. It is VERY fortunate that the vertical foldline falls in-between the two stars, and that much of the damage in the vertical foldline was in the top half, where there is solely background area, not even lettering. The poster was well linenbacked, and the restoration in the top of the vertical foldline is not distracting at all. I can't imagine a collector who would not be thrilled to have this great poster displayed on their wall, and there really is next-to-no restoration anywhere in the image other than in the exact parts of the vertical foldline described above!
