An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) Modern Minstrels, the 1930 A.D.W. Productions stage musical starring Cliff Nazarro. Note that this poster features art of two blackface minstrel performers, one of whom is playing a banjo. We could find no information about this movie (it is certainly possible it is not a movie, but rather a stage show, but since the only poster we have seen was printed by Woolever Press, which printed movie posters, we think it is likely from a movie). Cliff Nazarro (who is misbilled on this poster as "Cliff Nazzarro") was a popular double-talk comedian of the 1930s and 1940s who appeared in some movies, but that's all we know about him. The IMDb says that this movie was distributed by A.D.W. Productions Ltd., who also distributed "A Pair o' Dice" the same year, and that that movie was partially distributed by Norman Distributing Company, who they think also distributed the all-black Norman Film productions of the late 1910s and 1920s, but we are not sure that is correct. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this one-sheet! Also note that this one-sheet was created by "Woolever Press" of Los Angeles, California. Woolever Press created one-sheets and window cards for movies that were distributed to theaters who (for one reason or another) had difficulty obtaining studio issue paper. Woolever Press posters were created during a movie's first release. This is similar to the posters created by "the other company", as an alternate to studio issue posters. Also note that this one-sheet measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small tears, creases, and paper loss on parts of the folds and pinholes, creases, smudges and scuffs around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
