An Original 1942 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/4" x 39 3/4" [69 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) Pa Solsidan (literally translates to "On the Sunny Side"), the 1936 Gustaf Molander Swedish rich-man-poor-girl romantic melodrama (about a beautiful young woman who works as a bank clerk, and she meets a rich man who offers to marry her; she agrees, and she seems to have everything she could ever want, but she starts to miss her old friends and her old life) starring Ingrid Bergman (just 20 years old when this was made, in her fifth movie, and her second starring role), Lars Hanson, Karin Swanstrom, Edvin Adolphson, and Marianne Lofgren. It appears this movie was never released in the U.S. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that Ingrid Bergman started making movies in Sweden when she was 20 and she was quickly noticed after a handful of movies, which led to starring roles. After starring in the Swedish "Intermezzo", David Selznick signed her to a Hollywood contract, and her first U.S. movie was a remake of that Swedish film. Of course, she went on to become one of the greatest stars of all time! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Anselmo Ballester Important Added Info: Note that we have never auctioned this Italian poster before. It is also the only poster we have auctioned from this very early Ingrid Bergman movie! Note that the art is by the legendary Italian artist, Anselmo Ballester. One might think that the image of Bergman does not look exactly like her, but actually, it really does! It is just because the rest of the world did not see Ingrid Bergman when she was just 20 years old, and we have seen the photographic image that Ballester created this from, and he captured Bergman perfectly! Also note that this is an extremely rare Italian poster from during World War II! Virtually no Italian posters survive from during or right after World War II (mostly only some heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in Italy during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and very minor fold wear. It had a few tiny dot stains in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
