An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Brother Orchid, the 1940 Lloyd Bacon gangster-on-the-run crime screwball comedy ("We'd like youse to meet Brother Orchid"; "Based on the Collier's magazine story by Richard Connell"; about a gangster who hides out in a monastery, and pretends to join the order, with great comic results!) starring Edward G. Robinson (in the title role as Little John Sarto/Brother Orchid), Ann Sothern, Humphrey Bogart (in one of his many unsympathetic gangster roles, after making The Petrified Forest, but before Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon), Donald Crisp, Ralph Bellamy, Allen Jenkins, and Paul Guilfoyle NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had a large area of paper loss in the top center that affected most of the "OUSE" of "YOUSE". It also had paper loss in the four blank corners and paper loss in the bottom center that extended into the bottom of the rectangle. The poster also had small tears and paper loss scattered down the vertical fold. It had a much lesser amount of wear on the horizontal folds and some small paper loss in the left and right blank borders. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. Given the poster's significant defects, a restorer did a really nice job with this poster, because it displays really well and it does not have a significantly "restored" look to it at all, although you can see slight signs of the restoration. But bear in mind the restoration it has had and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
