Date Sold 4/9/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style B Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Broadway Bill, the 1934 Frank Capra horse racing gambling romantic love triangle comedy melodrama ("Great Alone - Perfect Together!"; "Two Great Stars in The Comedy Successor to 'It Happened One Night'"; "The Comedy Successor to 'It Happened One Night'!"; "Based on the story by Mark Hellinger"; screen play "by Robert Riskin"; about a gambler who is married to the daughter of a millionaire, but she doesn't share his interests in gambling or horse racing, but her younger sister does, and it takes him a while to realize that he married the wrong sister!) starring Warner Baxter, Myrna Loy, Walter Connolly, Helen Vinson, Margaret Hamilton, Clarence Muse, and Broadway Bill the horse (in the title role). Director Frank Capra remade this film in 1950 as the musical "Riding High", in which he actually used many of the same actors so he wouldn't have to re-shoot any of the big race scenes, which were reused from this film! The poster had creases, tears, and small areas of paper loss on parts of many foldlines. There were greater areas of paper loss on the foldlines that were on the outside when the poster was fully folded, which were the two vertical foldlines that run down the top right of the poster, and the two top horizontal foldlines that run across the right half of the poster. There was significant paper loss at the top crossfold in Loy's forehead and beneath it, running down into part of her eye and in the tip of her nose. There was paper loss in the right of that same foldline in the back of her hair. There was a large area of paper loss in the crossfold that fell in Baxter's ear and the edge of his hair next to his ear. There were many tears and areas of paper loss in the center of Loy's dress. The poster also had an unusual printing defect, which was many fine horizontal partial lines scattered throughout the top half of the poster (they are very noticeable from close up, but from a reasonable viewing distance, they are not all that distracting, although you can still see clear signs of them throughout the upper half of the poster). Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster has had considerable extensive professional restoration, which restored all of the above defects, EXCEPT for the faint horizontal lines scattered throughout the upper half of the poster (to restore those would have required repainting the upper half of the poster). Certainly, one would wish that the poster were in far better condition, but I have never seen or heard of another example of this beautiful poster, and it has had first rate restoration, and I think it will display well. BUT PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT ITS VERY SUBSTANTIAL RESTORATION AND THE FACT THAT IT HAS FAINT HORIZONTAL LINES THROUGHOUT THE UPPER HALF (including in the stars' images), WHICH ARE ONLY BARELY VISIBLE IN OUR SUPER-SIZED IMAGE, BUT WHICH ARE MUCH MORE VISIBLE WHEN VIEWED CLOSE UP IN PERSON.
