An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 44 1/4" x 61 1/2" [112 x 156 cm]) (Learn More) Mon Oncle (released in the U.S. as "Jacques Tati's My Uncle"), the classic 1958 Jacques Tati French/Italian family relationship slapstick comedy ("Happy is the Day when Hulot Comes to Play!"; "He's back again in another brilliantly funny M. Hulot role"; winner of the Best Foreign Film Academy Award) starring Jacques Tati (as Mr. Hulot), Jean-Pierre Zola, Adrienne Servantie, Lucien Fregis, and Jean Meyet NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Pierre Etaix Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially French movie, is extremely rare. We have previously auctioned the French "medium" size, but this is the very first time we have auctioned the one-panel size! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had darkening on the folds and some tiny creases and scuffs on parts of several folds. It had an odd printing defect at the top that was likely caused by the paper getting stuck in the press, and it has uneven white lines across the upper part of the image, and extending into the top left of the title. Someone had the poster paperbacked with no excess, but they did no restoration to the above defects. They also rolled the poster with the image inward, which has resulted in some of the folds returning, including the folds that caused the printing defect. Certainly, the new owner of the poster could have restoration performed to the above defects, with or without re-backing it, but bear the defects in mind (and look at our super-sized image) before bidding on this rare poster.
