An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Twenty-Four-Sheet Movie Poster (24sh; measures approximately 9' x 20') (Learn More) The Misfits, the 1961 John Huston modern-day romantic cowboy western ("It shouts and sings with life... explodes with love!"; "Never again will the screen hold such excitement!"; "The world's greatest photographers shoot 'the Misfits'!"; with a screenplay by Arthur Miller) starring Clark Gable (in his last film), Marilyn Monroe (in her last completed film), Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter, Eli Wallach, and James Barton (in his last film). Note that Arthur Miller was at the time married to Monroe, but the marriage fell apart during filming. He began to see Inge Morath, a photographer documenting production of this film, and she later became his third and final wife. Also note that Clark Gable went on a crash diet before production started, losing 35 pounds. His health was already precarious, and he hated working with Marilyn Monroe, who could not remember her lines and did not show up on time, which aggravated his condition, and he suffered from a coronary thrombosis the day after shooting finished, dying ten days later. Important Added Info: Note that this twenty-four sheet was printed in 14 sections designed to overlap. Also note that this poster needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 15" x 21" x 2", so it will cost more to send than items that fit in our standard flat packages, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. Finally, note that this is one of a remarkable collection of ELEVEN 24-sheets we are currently auctioning, and they are from 1957 to 1986, years that you would not expect ANY 24-sheets to have survived from, and they include first release 24-sheets from both Star Wars and Return of the Jedi, which are surely in the handful of most rare Star Wars posters there are! This is an incredibly rare opportunity to add any of these eleven posters to your collection! Condition: good to very good. Note that this is the very rare case of a 24-sheet that was saved after it was displayed! The vast majority of 24-sheets were glued to walls, so the used ones could not be saved, and the only ones that survive are ones that never made it to theaters. But this poster was displayed on some huge wall, and it was attached with tape, and then removed, and there are pieces of tape and tape stains around the edges. They also used some sort of circular sticky device to help hold it to the wall, and there are some of those as well. The poster also has some darkening on the back of the part of the poster that was on the outside when it was fully folded. There are some creases and several tears along the foldlines that were on the outside when the poster was fully folded. There are some creases, smudges, and tiny tears on some foldlines, and some tiny paper loss at some crossfolds, but the poster has survived pretty well (especially given its very large size), as can be seen from our image.
