An Original Vintage Unfolded Special Movie Poster (measures 14" x 21 3/4" [36 x 55 cm]) (Learn More) The Big Parade, the classic 1925 King Vidor silent romantic World War I (WWI) American-soldiers-in-France military melodrama ("It's here! The film that you'll call the best you ever saw"; "Story by Laurence Stallings"; "King Vidor's production of Lawrence Stallings' great motion picture story following his stage success with 'What Price Glory'"; about an all-American boy who enlists in the Army in World War I, and he and his friends have a great time until they are thrust into combat, and the movie shows the horrors of war in a way that had not been done before, and the boy returns home after losing a leg; there is also a romantic subplot with the American G.I. having a brief affair with a beautiful French girl) starring John Gilbert ("The Star"), Renee Adoree ("as Melisande"), Hobart Bosworth, Claire McDowell, Claire Adams, Robert Ober, Tom O'Brien, Karl Dane, and Rosita Martini. Note that MGM had no idea what they had when this movie was being made, but King Vidor was able to sell them on the potential of the movie, and convince them to spend a huge amount of money filming authentic battle scenes, and the movie was a major critical and financial success! Important Added Info: Note that this movie proved to be MGM's greatest success to this time, and the studio created an amazing array of different poster images for it. We thought we had seen all the different images until we saw this item, which is a special poster that was printed on one-sheet type paper, but is printed at a window card size, and it is a special letter from MGM directly to moviegoers telling them that they are sure to love this great movie! Apparently, MGM sent this special poster to theaters, telling them to display it either in the lobby or outside the lobby (and there are several plugs for the local theater in the letter, to try to get them more inclined to display it). We have never seen or heard of this poster before! Condition: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss in three corners and many small tears around the edges, with a 4" tear in the upper left border and a 6" tear near the middle of the right border. The poster was displayed against a corrugated backing board, which caused the back of the poster to darken unevenly, but it does not affect the front of the poster. The entire poster is fragile, and someone put tape on the back of the tears, but I would highly recommend having the poster linenbacked. After a simple linenbacking, the poster will look great and it will not require hardly any paint restoration. Learn More about condition grades
