The most magnificent picture ever!"; "David O. Selznick's production of Margaret Mitchell's story of the Old South"; "Screen play by Sidney Howard"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Clark Gable (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Rhett Butler"), Vivien Leigh (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; "and presenting Vivien Leigh as O'Hara"), Leslie Howard ("as Ashley Wilkes"), Olivia de Havilland (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; "as Melanie"), Hattie McDaniel ("as Mammy"), Thomas Mitchell ("as Gerald O'Hara"), Butterfly McQueen (as Prissy), Ann Rutherford ("as Carreen O'Hara"), George Reeves (in his first credited movie role!), Victor Jory, Jane Darwell, Ward Bond, Ona Munson ("as Belle Watling"), Yakima Canutt, Harry Davenport ("as Dr. Meade"), Carroll Nye ("as Frank Kennedy"), Laura Hope Crews ("as Aunt Pittypat"), Alicia Rhett ("as India Wilkes"), Barbara O'Neil ("as Ellen O'Hara"), Marcella Martin (as Cathleen Calvert), Frank Coghlan Jr., Fred Crank, Rand Brooks, Cammie King Conlan, Patrick Curtis, and William Bakewell

Important Added Info: Note that this is the incredibly rare "recalled" version of this program book (see below for more on this). Not that many people know that when this movie first opened, the program book had images of eight of the supporting cast members on the back cover, and one of those eight was Hattie McDaniel. What happened next is shrouded in mystery, but it is clear that the programs were recalled and new programs were printed with Hattie McDaniel's image removed, likely because someone at MGM was afraid of offending southern theaters. We have auctioned 53 "regular" programs from this movie, but we only once before auctioned this incredibly rare recalled version with Hattie McDaniel shown, and it sold for $2,300!

Note that at least 4 programs were printed for this film, and the back cover is the key to determining the version. The program used for the premiere in L.A. and Atlanta has a blank back cover except they mention "New York City" at the bottom with "Litho USA" in the lower right corner, the regular 1939 program has art of the cast and mentions "New York City" at the bottom with "Litho USA" in the lower right corner, the 1940 version has art of the cast but lacks the "New York City", and the recalled version features an image of Hattie McDaniel instead of Alicia Rhett. The version offered here is the recalled version.

Condition: good to very good. There are faint smudges around the edges and tiny dot stains in the center and right bottom border of the cover. There is a faint horizontal crease in the top right corner of all pages. Otherwise the program is in pretty nice condition (and it is in slightly better condition than the only other example of this program we have auctioned, which sold for $2,300!).
