An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (measures 13 3/4" x 22") (Learn More) Mister Wu, the 1927 William Nigh silent China family relationship romantic melodrama ("From the play by Henry Maurice Vernon and Harold Owen..."; "Adaptation and continuity by Lorna Moon"; with Lon Chaney playing a dual role, as the Mandarin Mister Wu and his aged grandfather; in the movie, Mr. Wu's daughter falls in love with a Westerner, with predictable results) starring Lon Chaney Sr. (in the title role), Renee Adoree, Louise Dresser, Holmes Herbert, Ralph Forbes, and Anna May Wong. Note that Anna May Wong would have been perfect for the female lead in this movie (playing Chaney's granddaughter), but because that character had a love scene with a "white" man, MGM cast white Renee Adoree in the role (and she wore "yellowface" makeup to portray an Asian woman), so that audiences wouldn't have to see an interracial romance. Thankfully, the prejudices of that time no longer exist! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has next-to-no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). Condition: good to very good. The top 2" of the card was trimmed off, and there were creases, tears, and some tiny areas of paper loss in the borders, and some smudges and tiny stains scattered through the image. Someone paperbacked the card and did a pretty nice job of restoration, and the card displays well! Learn More about condition grades
