An Original Vintage Matted United States Treasury War Bond Ceritficate (certificate measures 8" x 10"; mat measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Disney War Bond, the 1944 U.S. World War II (WWII) War Bond certificate ("United States Treasury War Finance Committee"; "Know all men by these presents: This is to certify that _____ is the owner of a War Bond, thereby becoming an investor in this country's fight for human liberty and the contributor in a world struggle to make life free and forever peaceful for all men. This Bond presented by: _____. Attested this ___ day of ____ 194_") featuring art of classic Disney cartoon characters such as Bambi, Pinocchio, Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and many more. We found one example of a war bond certificate like this on the Internet, and the person who owned it said that they had contacted the U.S. Treasury about it, and this is how they replied: "The Walt Disney certificate in your possession is not a United States Savings Bond. Certificates were issued by various banks and other organizations during World War II in connection with the sale of savings bonds. In many instances, certificates were used to indicate that individuals participated in the sale of bonds, and did not necessarily mean that individuals, or someone acting on their behalf, actually purchased a savings bond. Such certificates have no monetary value supported by the US Treasury." NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: As noted above, the U.S. Treasury denies having any obligation to honor this bond! What is especially odd about it is it does not have a monetary amount on it! So we don't even know what the person (in this case the "Mother and Father" of "Diana C. Brunner" paid for it. However, it is a really cool piece of Disney memorabilia, which seems to be quite rare! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this item is in eMoviePoster.com's special "all animation" auction! The idea for this auction began when we were consigned a remarkable collection of original 1940s Walt Disney pressbooks, mini lobby cards, and standees (and almost all of those are extremely rare ones that are hardly ever auctioned, and they almost all are in really nice condition). Once we knew we had those items, we contacted all our past consignors, and asked them to consign to this very special auction, and they REALLY came through, consigning a wonderful assortment of cartoon movie paper of all sorts. Buying from this special auction gives you an incredibly rare opportunity to obtain some of the finest cartoon animation movie paper we have ever seen, and all of them will have new owners when these auctions close, because all start at $1 with no reserve. Many of these items will likely not be auctioned again for many years to come! Condition: very good. The "war bond" measures 8" x 10" and is inside of a nice 11" x 14" mat (it is attached solely by stamp hinges in the corners, and can be removed). There is a smudge in the bottom center of the bond and some around the edges, with one at the left of the center writing (see our images). We don't know if this was sold matted or if the owner matted it. It has also been filled out with the name of the child who received it and the name of the giver ("Mother and Father").
