Date Sold 8/1/2023 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 4 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 11" [20 x 28 cm] Key Book Stills (Learn More) Casey at the Bat, the 1927 Monte Brice silent New York Major League Baseball sports comedy ("Story by Hector Turnbull"; very loosely based on the classic poem by Ernest Lawrence Thayer) starring Wallace Beery (in the title role as 'Home Run' Casey), Ford Sterling, Zasu Pitts, Sterling Holloway, and Spec O'Donnell. Note that this movie owes as much to the larger-than-life Babe Ruth as it does to the classic poem! In it, Casey is a mighty home run hitter, who is signed by the New York Giants, and he starts to live the high life, buying drinks for everyone and romancing showgirls. At the climax of the movie, he comes to bat, and just like the Casey of the poem, he strikes out, but it turns out that the ball was doctored, and the result of the game is overturned! Important Added Info: Note that these stills have been mounted to a linen type material and have an extra 1" at the top or left of the still, along with punch holes in that extra area (typical of many key book stills).
