Date Sold 6/14/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/4" [24 x 31 cm]; 28 pages) (Learn More) Paramount's 100% Program for 1927-8, the 1927 Paramount Pictures campaign book ("Now the industry takes another giant step forward with Paramount's 100% program for 1927-8") featuring images and information about upcoming Paramount movie releases for the 1927-28 season including: Metropolis (Fritz Lang's masterpiece, which Paramount co-produced with Germany's UFA, which is why it is advertised here; interestingly, Paramount had already included an ad for Metropolis in their 1926-27 campaign book, and that ad is a completely different full-color ad from this one!), Red Hair with Clara Bow, Beau Geste with Ronald Colman, The Way of All Flesh with Emil Jannings and many more. There is a six-page section that advertises Paramount short subjects, with a great illustrated ad for Krazy Kat and Max Fleischer's Inkwell Imps cartoons. Note that, because Paramount at this time was one of the very leading studios, and had many of the biggest name stars and directors, and also had lots of money to spend, they made lots of great movies this year, and they also were proposing many unbelievable movies that never got made (see some of the examples above; perhaps it was because the stars became too famous too quickly to make so many movies, or maybe it was because of the Great Depression, but this book has lots of never-made movies that one could only dream of!). Sometimes Paramount did not use as much full-color artwork as the lesser studios, because they had so many great stars, but in the case of THIS campaign book, they commissioned some of the very finest full-color art I have ever seen in any campaign book! We have included images of the cover of the book and eight of the interior pages (and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones, and we really wish we could have pictured them all!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never had this campaign book (which is filled with great full-color images) before. It may have been removed from a magazine where it was inserted as a supplement, but most collectors of campaign books will take them either way (as standalone volumes or as part of magazines), because the printing is the same in both, and they are so rare that they can be impossible to find! Condition: fair to good. The pages are in two sections that were once sewn at the spine, indicating they were either part of a magazine or had a hardcover binding over them. There are also 4 pages missing from the interior, but the pages that are present have wonderful images (see our images of a few of the pages). Of course, one would rather find this book without missing pages, but it is incredibly rare and we don't know that another can be found. Learn More about condition grades
