Stahl passing-for-white romantic tearjerker melodrama (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the novel by Fannie Hurst) starring Claudette Colbert, Warren William, Louise Beavers (one of the first black African Americans to achieve success in mainstream Hollywood movies), Rochelle Hudson, Ned Sparks, Henry Armetta, Baby Jane, Alan Hale Sr., Fredi Washington (a very light-skinned, very talented black African American actress who refused to try to "pass for white", and who appeared in several important black related movies including "The Emperor Jones" and "Black and Tan"; ironically, she had to have her skin darkened, so she could "pass for black"!), Marilyn Knowlden, and Juanita Quigley. Note that this movie was re-made in 1959 by Ross Hunter and Douglas Sirk with Lana Turner in the lead role! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline).
