eMoviePoster.comCool Item Of the Week: East of 5th Avenue pressbookReturn to Cool Item of the Month Archive Added: 04/08/2019 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! So below is the pressbook from East of 5th Avenue, the 1933 Albert S. Rogell New York City romantic boarding house romantic love triangle unwed mother gambling melodrama ("The Grand Hotel of a New York boarding house"; based on the story "Brownstone Front" by Lew Levinson, screenplay by Jo Swerling, who decades later had mega-success writing the screenplay for the also New York City based play and movie, "Guys and Dolls"; a really wild story of an elderly couple who own a boardinghouse brownstone in New York City, and on their 50th anniversary they plan to sell the building and retire to England, but their tenants have incredibly complicated and intertwined lives, and the movie has many twists and turns, including embezzling money from the owners to bet on a "sure thing at the horse races, but we won't reveal the others, so as to not spoil this for those of you who wish to watch it!) starring Wallace Ford, Dorothy Tree, Mary Carlisle, Walter Connolly and Walter Byron. Here is an image of the pressbook's cover and an interior page: Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 20,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!). And remember to check out our previous Cool Items of the Week in our Cool Item of the Week archive (which is fully searchable!).
