About These Tuesday Items
This is our first ever "all animation" auction!
This is our first ever "all animation" auction, FILLED with all sorts of cool animation and cartoon
posters, lobby cards and stills, PLUS lots of excellent original cels, multi-cel set-ups,
original pencil drawings, and much, much more! We also have the animation cel collection of Jon
Robert Shaps (we previously sold his remarkable autograph collection!). See below for more about
his collection!
There is every possibility there will be even more
great deals than ever in this set of auctions, because it is our very first time holding an auction
like this (we have previously sold just about every cartoon poster and lobby card known, but this
auction contains so many more items of all sorts that we have NOT auctioned before). PLUS, we located a stash of our CARTOON MOVIE POSTERS BOOK (our very first
full-color book, and it has 100 pages of the very best classic cartoon posters known to exist) and
WE WILL BE GIVING ONE OF THESE AS AN ADDED BONUS TO EVERY BUYER IN THIS SET OF AUCTIONS (see
below)!
About the Jon Robert Shaps animation cel
collection
Contained in this special auction are 32 items that were consigned to us by the brother of
Jon Robert Shaps, a celebrity photographer in the 1970s and 1980s. This is a truly remarkable
collection of animation cels! Mr. Shaps also had an amazing autograph collection, and we
auctioned that on January 22, 2012, and at that time we created a webpage explaining who Jon
Robert Shaps was and how he acquired that autograph collection, and we urge you to view that
page at this link.
In addition to collecting signed items, Mr. Shaps collected animation cels
(he was able to get a few of them signed by celebrities before his untimely passing). 22 of his
animation cels were framed and matted on his walls, and the frames and glass were removed and
disposed of, but the 22 matted cels are in this auction (they are items number
2m009 to 2m030). The mats can be opened to see the cels, but one
could easily get a new frame and re-frame the matted cels, saving money in the process! Mr.
Shaps also had ten cels that were not matted or framed, and those are in this auction as well
(they are items number 2m059 to 2m068). This is a wonderful collection of animation cels!
About the matted items contained in this auction
Contained in this special auction are 50 items that had been framed. Because shipping a framed
item is very unsafe (due to the likelihood of the glass or Plexiglas shattering and ruining the
item), we asked those consignors to discard the frames and send us the matted items. All of those 50
items are clearly noted (they are items number 2m009 to 2m058), and they will be sent in flat
packages with the items attached to the mats. If the item is a standard size, the new owner can
easily purchase a frame and glass (or Plexiglas), and if the item is a non-standard size, any framer
can easily create a new frame to that size, and one can quickly have the item displayed on their
wall (and if they want to remove the item from the mat, that can be done as well, and then the item
can be re-framed however the new owner wishes). But having the items with the mats saves a
considerable expense of framing.
EVERY buyer in this auction
receives our great Cartoon Movie Posters book
Because this is our first ever "all animation" set of auctions, we wanted to do something
"special" for the buyers, and by a great stroke of fortune, we came across a stash of perfect copies
of our very first full-color book,
Cartoon Movie Posters,
and we have enough that we can give EVERY buyer from this set of auctions one of these books
(even if they only purchase one $1 item!).
Note that this book contains 393 full-color illustrations spread over 100
pages of cartoon movie posters with special emphasis on Popeye, Betty Boop, Tex Avery, Tom and
Jerry, and Disney features and short subjects. The book gives the year of release, the producer and
director, and the star (if it's a series cartoon). It contains a huge percentage of all the cartoon
movie posters known from before 1950, and contains ten full-page illustrations! This is the original
first edition from 1995, and it will never be reprinted. Many, many people have told us this is the
very book we ever did, and you will get it at no charge if you purchase ANY item in this
auction!

About the condition
Note that we give a detailed overall condition grade to every item we sell
("fine", "very good to fine", "very good", "good to very good", "good", and
"fair", with only a few graded "poor") along with more details about the
condition described in words (but pretty much only if they are defects that CAN'T be seen in our super-sized images, or if the item is especially valuable). We felt this would help bidders identify items they want to bid on more easily. Of course, we still strongly recommend that you look at our super-sized image to see the extent of the defects that we describe and to examine the poster for minor defects that we did NOT describe.
If a poster, drawing, or cel is in less than very good condition, should you not bid on it? Of course not, as long as you are accepting of the defects the poster has! The item that is graded "very good", but has as many minor defects as is allowed under the "very good" definition is only in SLIGHTLY better condition than the best of the "good to very good" items. So please take the time to look at the larger images of items that interest you, and see if the defects are the sort that you can "live with", or are willing to restore. Some of these items are EXTREMELY rare, and it may be years before you see them offered again!
About surface scuffs and creasing on some stills As anyone who looks at old photos knows, twenty to eighty year old photos are almost certain to pick up faint scuffs and creases in the surface emulsion of the photo. Vintage stills are the same way. But when these creases and scuffs are light, you can't see them when you look directly at the still from straight on, but you CAN see them when you tilt the still to the light. We don't consider this a major defect, because we don't know anyone who displays their stills tilted to the light. So if a still has minor scuffs and creases that are not very visible when it is viewed straight on, we still grade it as "very good or very good to fine" (or a higher grade). The only exception to this is if there are scuffs and creases throughout the entire still. Then we grade it as "lesser" (or a lower grade), even if the scuffs and creases are not visible when looked at straight on. We DO feel most collectors can accept minor surface scuffs and creases that can hardly be seen from straight on and are relatively minor. If you disagree, you probably should think long and hard before bidding on the stills that we grade as "lesser", or "very good or very good to fine" (but you still likely will be happy with the stills we grade as "fine or better", because we won't give a still those grades if there are scuffs in the surface emulsion that are at all visible when the still is viewed head-on).
MANY OTHER SELLERS WOULD ASK $4.99, $6.99, $9.99, OR MORE EACH FOR REPRODUCTIONS OF STILLS THE SAME OR SIMILAR TO THESE, AND MOST
OTHER SELLERS START SIMILAR ORIGINAL VINTAGE STILLS AT $14.99 OR MORE EACH
but you may be able to buy one or more stills from us this week for as low
as $1 PER STILL (if you are the only bidder, but of course, there may well be other bidders; IN OUR AUCTIONS, THE FINAL PRICES ARE ALWAYS SET BY TWO REAL BIDDERS, NOT BY YOU BIDDING AGAINST AN ARTIFICIAL RESERVE OR "STARTING PRICE", which may well be "too high"). And these are vintage stills, which have collectible value, as opposed to reproduction stills, which have NO collectible value. |
U.S. Shipping Details
U.S. buyers need to enclose different amounts for shipping
depending on what you buy (see the chart above). Know that most items ship for either $7, $11,
or $15 shipping, but a few are really oversized and need to have the shipping quoted (and know
too that some items ship in flat packages while others ship rolled in tubes; if you win both
types, they can't be combined and we would therefore charge you two shipping amounts). And of
course, all U.S. orders will include full insurance!
Missouri
customers: You must pay an additional 7.162% sales tax on your
purchases. If your order is sent within the state of Missouri, we MUST
collect this tax (if it is shipped to another state, we do not collect the tax).
Will your order be
shipped to you by UPS?
UPS does NOT automatically require a signature
to deliver packages, so if you want the signature to be required, you will
need to pay the extra $3.00 UPS charges for "signature required" Delivery
Confirmation, and please realize that they will then NOT leave the
package, and you may well have to go to the UPS facility yourself to pick it
up. But if you prefer this, that is fine, and if you have any other
special requirements, please tell us when you are paying for your order.
IF YOU DO NOT SPECIFY THAT YOU WANT SIGNATURE REQUIRED, THEN YOUR PACKAGE
WILL BE SENT WITHOUT SIGNATURE REQUIRED!
You CAN usually combine shipment!
NOTE: These Tuesday items need to be
sent in different types of packages so...
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT COMBINING: Flat rate shipping is good for 2 weeks worth of
purchases. If you win items over a span of more than 14 days, you will then be charged the
actual cost of shipping plus $3 for packing materials.
*items marked as "flat" shipping might be able to be
combined with these items (but know that if they can't be combined into a single package, then
we will ship them in separate packages):
Tuesday June 26th folded one-sheets
Thursday June 28th lots of 2+ 8" x 10" stills from the same title
Thursday July 5th single 8" x 10" stills
Tuesday July 10th folded one-sheets
Sunday July 15th bulk lots (NOTE: Only some could be combined)
*items marked as "rolled" shipping might be able to
be combined with these items (but know that if they can't be combined into a single package,
then we will ship them in separate packages):
Sunday July 1st rolled one-sheets
Tuesday July 3rd rolled non-U.S. posters
Thursday July 12th "special" rolled posters
Sunday July 15th bulk lots (NOTE: Only some could be combined)
|
Note that we not only allow you to combine as many items as you want from a single
set of Tuesday, Thursday, and/or Sunday auctions, and still pay only a single shipping charge for all of the items, but we also allow you to wait until
the next five sets of auctions end (a total of six sets of auctions) so that you can combine your current purchases with those of our following auctions
(if possible), and that means there
is a chance you could combine items from up to six of our sets of auctions, and still pay only a single shipping charge (assuming those items fit into the same type of package). We KNOW there are other sellers who charge a little less on shipping than we do, but we know that our packaging is the best there is, and our orders virtually never arrive damaged (and on the very rare times that they do, all our U.S. packages are fully insured, and
FULL INSURANCE IS INCLUDED IN THE U.S. SHIPPING CHARGE).
DON'T BID ON OUR ITEMS
UNLESS YOU WILL PAY THE STATED U.S. SHIPPING (see the chart above)!

Non-U.S. Shipping Details
Non-U.S. buyers must pay the actual cost of shipping their order
(you can choose whatever method you prefer, but know that the U.S. Post
Office has eliminated Surface Mail, so we can only send via Express or
Airmail), plus $3, for both the best packaging materials you have ever seen
and a separate printed invoice mailed to you.
All non-U.S. buyers must tell us if they want the package sent insured or
uninsured at the time they pay for their order.
Have you heard about our Pay and Hold
Program?
This lets non-U.S. buyers pay for their purchases from 4 consecutive weeks
(a total of 12 auctions and around 8,000+ items!), and we then send all your
purchases at once saving you LOTS of money! Click

about becoming one of the hundreds of our non-U.S. buyers who are already
part of this program.

Here is a chart
containing estimated shipping charges for up to 3 items from this week's
auctions (note these are ESTIMATES only, and your actual shipping may
vary considerably; and know too that some items ship in flat packages while others ship rolled
in tubes; if you win both types, they can't be combined and we would therefore charge you two
shipping amounts)
(Note: Insured quotes are based on a $200 value; you pay $1.60 more
for each additional $100 of insurance) |

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please bear these
approximate shipping cost in mind BEFORE you place a bid (if
you live outside the U.S.). The vast majority of our customers want a very
securely packed tube, and will pay the extra shipping cost involved (and of
course, it goes to the Post Office or UPS, and not us!). Please do not ask
us to pack less securely, as that would likely result in a damaged order.
Some sellers are sending by Ground UPS to Canada, but that incurs large
"brokerage fees", so we do not recommend it. Note that there are also
some sellers sending non-U.S. packages via a "Letter" rate, but of course
this is not legal, and we can not do this. We have outlined the
possibilities for sending non-U.S. packages above, so please read that
carefully, BEFORE placing a bid!
DON'T BID ON OUR ITEMS UNLESS YOU WILL PAY THE ACTUAL COST OF SHIPPING (the
actual cost of shipping plus $3 outside the U.S.)!
