GEORGE CHAKIRIS

George Chakiris is a dancer and actor from the 1940s to the 1990s. He started with tiny roles as a dancer in some major MGM productions, and today he is best remembered for his starring role as Bernardo in West Side Story (winner of the the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film). After his great success in West Side Story, Chakiris appeared in a number of offbeat movies throughout the rest of the 1960s, including The Big Cube, an early LSD movie with Lana Turner. In the 1970s, he pretty much vanished from movie screens, appearing on TV and on the stage. Some of his other movies include: Diamond Head, Kings of the Sun, and Flight from Ashiya. As of 2021, he is still alive at the age of 86!
