ANNA MAGNANI

Anna Magnani was an Italian actress from the 1920s to the 1970s. Some of her U.S. movies include: The Fugitive Kind, Wild Is The Wind (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) and The Rose Tattoo (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; Tennessee Williams wrote the original play's character just for her, but at the time of the Broadway production, Magnani's English was too limited!). Her best roles were in Italian movies, including: Roma, Citta Aperta, Mamma Roma, Bellissima, and Le Carrosse d'or. She passed away in 1973 at the age of 65.
