TOM TYLER

Tom Tyler was an actor from the 1920s to the 1950s. In the 1920s, while starring in films as a western hero, he was also a weight-lifting champion, winning the AAU weight-lifting championship (by lifting 760 lbs.) and making the 1928 U.S. Olympic team. While he often played the lead in B-westerns in the 1920s, he generally had supporting or uncredited roles in larger budget films (such as Gone with the Wind). However, in the early 1940s, he played the heroes in the Adventures of Captain Marvel and The Phantom serials. Some of his other movies include: Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (as a charioteer!), Best of the Badmen, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and Stagecoach. Unfortunately, Tyler's health took a turn for the worse, which limited his roles, and he passed away in 1954 at the age of 50.
