WARNER OLAND
Warner Oland was a Swedish actor from the 1910s to the 1930s. He was best remembered for his starring roles in all the early Fox Charlie Chan movies. 20th Century Fox continued making Chan movies after Oland's, with his substitute Sidney Toler, who, like Oland, was not Asian, but performed in yellowface (though Oland did have Mongolian ancestors). Some of Mr. Oland's other movies include: The Jazz Singer, Shanghai Express, Werewolf in London, and Tell It to the Marines. Oland passed away 1938 at the age of 58 from bronchial pneumonia. He also unfortunately had symptoms of dementia, which may have been related to his alcoholism.
