RAY BOLGER
Ray Bolger was an actor from the 1930s to the 1980s. While he is best known for playing the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz (he was not intended to play that part, but after Buddy Ebsen could not play the Tin Man, Jack Haley switched from the Scarecrow to the Tin Man, and Bolger was hired), he had been performing for many years prior. He started in vaudeville in the 1920s, and he did not make his first movie until 1936 (in a small part in The Great Ziegfeld). Bolger appeared in many musical comedies of the 1930s to the 1950s, and played the title role in Where's Charley? He passed away in 1987 at the age of 83.
