Bud Collyer was an actor from the 1930s to the 1960s. He was one of the game show hosts who worked for Goodson-Toddman, and he hosted "To Tell the Truth" for many years, as well as the first version of "Beat the Clock" and other game shows. To comic book fans, he is best known for voicing Clark Kent/Superman, first on radio, then in the 1940s Fleischer cartoons, as well as later in 1960s TV cartoons. Collyer passed away in 1969 at the age of 61. Note that his desire to take some time off from the Superman radio show led to the creation of part of Superman lore: his vulnerability to kryptonite! When Collyer did not appear, Superman was said to be held prisoner under a trap door with a piece of the deadly green metal.
