CAPTAIN MARVEL (Shazam character)
Captain Marvel (Shazam!) is a fictional comic book superhero that was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck in 1939 for Fawcett Comics. The character was first named Captain Marvel but Fawcett ceased publishing Captain Marvel-related comics in 1953, partly because of a copyright infringement suit from DC Comics (alleging that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman). In 1972, DC Comics licensed the Marvel characters from Fawcett, and returned them to publication in a comic book called Shazam! (which was due to trademark conflicts over another character named Captain Marvel owned by Marvel Comics). The character is the basis of the 2019 live-action film with Zachary Levi in the title role.
