Bill Ward was a cartoonist from the 1940s to the 1990s. While best known for his creation of the risque comic character Torchy in 1944, after he finished serving in World War II. Torch was one of the first comic strips to feature "good girl" art, something Ward would remain associated with for the rest of his career. Ward also drew backgrounds for for Fawcett Comics, including the pulp magazine features Doc Savage and The Shadow! Starting in the mid 1950s, he did a lot of work doing "risque" cartoons for "men's" magazines, although he continued doing some comic book work as well. He passed away in 1998 at the age of 79.
