Tokyo Rose was a name given by Allied troops in the South Pacific during World War II to English-speaking female broadcasters of Japanese propaganda. Iva Toguri D'Aquino is the most famously-linked name behind the Tokyo Rose persona. She was a native to Los Angeles and was stranded in Japan while visiting family when the war broke out. After the Japanese defeat, Toguri was detained for a year by the U.S. military before being released for lack of evidence. However, she was arrested by the F.B.I. when she returned to the U.S. and convicted of treason in 1949. She was eventually pardoned by President Gerald Ford in 1977 after claims that witnesses lied during testimony. Iva passed away in 2006 at the age of 90.
