JOHN AMOS

John Amos was a black African American actor from the 1970s to the 2020s. He left college with the hopes of playing in the NFL but with bigger dreams of being an actor. He was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs and then coach, Hank Stram, seeing that Amos wasn't that great of a football player, encouraged him to quit and take up acting. The rest is history! He is perhaps best known for playing "James Evans" on the hit television series "Good Times". He appeared on the first three seasons, and then asked the producers to let him out of the series, and they had his character have a heart attack, and it continued on without him! His next role was as the older Kunta Kinte in "Roots". But he was 38 years old, and although he was a fine actor, lead parts became scarce, and he has appeared in lots of TV and secondary movies over the years. He passed away in 2024 at the age of 84
