PAUL LENI
Paul Leni was an influential German Expressionist filmmaker from the 1910s to the 1920s. He is probably best remembered for his German production of "Waxworks", and for his American movies "The Cat and the Canary" and this film; he passed away in 1929 at the age of 44 from blood poisoning the same year he made his last movie, "The Last Warning", and it seems likely he would have been an influential director of the 1930s at Universal Studios had he lived!
