RICHARD DEACON

Richard Deacon was an actor from the 1950s to the 1980s. He is best known as Mel Cooley on TV's "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (and earlier as Fred Rutherford, Lumpy's father on "Leave It To Beaver"), was a well respected character actor on TV, in the movies, and on stage for many years. He had a memorable courtroom scene in The Young Philadelphians, opposite Paul Newman in 1959. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 63.
