MARY MCCARTHY
Mary McCarthy was a writer from the 1930s to the 1980s. Some of her works include: Sister Kenny, The Petty Girl, and Theodora Goes Wild. She was friends with the popular liberal writers of the 1930s, but fell out with them at that time, which began a feud with Lillian Hellman. In 1963, she wrote "The Group", which stayed on the best seller list for two years and became a movie. She became a celebrity and in 1979, when appearing on the Dick Cavett show, she said "every word [Hellman] writes is a lie, including 'and' and 'the'", and Hellman responded by suing her for $2.5 million, which resulted in depositions and trials that diminished both writers. It ended in 1984 with Hellman's death, and McCarthy passed away in 1989 at the age og 77.
