BILLY BARTY

Billy Barty was a diminutive actor from the 1920s to the 2000s. He was one of the best remembered "little people" ever to appear in movies (and his face is instantly recognizable to movie buffs). He started in movies in 1927 at the age of 3, and he played Mickey Rooney's younger brother in the "Mickey McGuire" movies, and appeared in 160 movies (but he did not appear in "The Wizard of Oz", because he made no movies from 1938 to 1945). He was 3' 9" his entire adult life. He became disenchanted with Hollywood's treatment of little people, and he was the founder of "The Little People of America" in 1957, which sought to improve the treatment they received from movies. In the 1960s and 1970s, he appeared on many TV shows. Barty passed away in 2000 at the age of 76.
