NICHELLE NICHOLS
Nichelle Nichols was a black African American actress from the 1950s to the 2020s. She is best remembered as Commander Uhura from the Star Trek TV series and movies. She had intended to quit Star Trek after the first season (because southern stations were refusing to air it, and it was hurting the show's ratings), but she met with Martin Luther King, who told her how great it was that she was on the show, because it showed his kids a non-stereotyped black woman, and she reconsidered and stayed on the show. Some of her other roles include: The Torturer, Are We There Yet, Snow Dogs, and Mister Buddwing. She passed away in 2022 at the age of 89.
