HERBERT HOOVER
Herbert Hoover was President of the United States from 1929 to 1933. The Great Depression struck during his term and his inability to end the downward economic spiral lead to his defeat in the next election, even though many scholars do not fault him for causing the Depression, because the root causes of it began during Calvin Coolidge's term. However, many in the country
DID fault Hoover for the Depression while it was going on, and the large groups of homeless people lived in shanty towns that were known as "Hoovervilles". The Hoover Dam was named in his honor. He passed away in 1964 at the age of 90.
