STROM THURMOND
Strom Thurmond was a politician from the 1940s to 2003. He was the Governor and Senator (the longest serving Senator in U.S. history) for South Carolina. He was a well known opponent of integration for many years, which made the revelation late in his life that he had fathered a child with a black African American woman all the more surprising! He passed away in 2003 at the age of 100 from heart failure/
